“The dance of breath and life from the heart”
“Temple Style Lomi” is also called “Kahuna Bodywork”
“When we change the patterns in our body, we change the patterns in our mind. When we change the patterns in our mind, we change our lives.” (-Kumu Abraham Kawai’i)
Always done with the spirit of Aloha, Kahuna Massage and Bodywork is an Hawaiian healing art, originally taught in the global mainstream by Hawaiian Kahuna, Kahu Abraham Kawai’i in the 80’s.
It is an holistic, whole-body massage experience, that moves energy blocks in the body, to effect more efficient flow and health in body, mind and spirit.
“I have never experienced a body therapy as grounding, meditative, and integrative of body and mind as this.” Esther
Hawaiian healers say that “Where there is flow, there is health”
This form of bodywork will increase your experience of healthy flow in your body and your life. It will give you a deeper connection with your inner world. It is a transformative experience that will take you on a journey.
“I experienced joy and tears as I let go of what was locked up in my body, and at the end of the 90 mins, I felt as though I could float our of her space. I was hooked on this magical form of therapy.” – Samantha
Come home to your body, come home to your self.
“For me this massage form addresses the many ways I have been conditioned to function against my nature and leads me back to what is REAL and ESSENTIAL to Life, Love and Truth. It leads me back to the body.” Francesqua Darling
Like any other massage, Kahuna Bodywork offers all the physical benefits, such as increased circulation, lymph flow, relaxation and tension release, and relief of joint aches, and it will give you so much more…. many clients find that they are left with a heightened awareness of their consistent thoughts, feelings and belief systems, and the impact that these have on their overall health and well-being. Kahuna massage supports change and transition in life, and helps people experience a sense of ‘coming home to themselves.’
“A glorious experience which reaches deep into the soul, leaving one healed and exhilarated.” – Julie
What makes Temple Style Lomi unique?
Traditional Temple Style Lomi is a full body oil massage that is dynamic and flowing. Like the ebb and flow of the ocean, the natural dance-like rhythm and the flow of breath in a massage session will lull you into deep relaxation and have a calming effect on the mind and emotions.
The massage is firm but gentle, and does no harm.
What makes it unique is the long, flowing massage strokes, the dynamic, moving music, and the dance-like rhythm of the therapist as she/he/they moves around the table.
The flowing strokes run up and down the body from head to toe, and back again, including all the muscles and fascia as one integrated whole.
Focused breathwork is an integral part of this form of massage.
Deep tissue release work is incorporated into the flowing massage, when it is appropriate, or as specific treatment, to release deeply entrenched muscle and energy blocks, often releasing emotions.
Joint rotations and skeletal movement are used to release muscle and fascia tension, to oil the joints, and release blocked energy often held in the joints.
Skeletal work and bone washing is also used to release stagnation at a deeper level, and to increase circulation and flow to blocked areas in the body.
Bodywork includes a variations of these modalities, applied when appropriate during a session. Every session is a different experience. I meet you where you are at, every time you come for a treatment. (The Bodywork sessions can also be done fully clothed.)
Traditionally for an oil massage, a cloth (sarong) is used as a modesty covering over the pubic and buttocks areas at all times during the session, while the therapist works with long flowing strokes over the rest of the whole body. Working on the front of the body, the chest/breast area and belly are usually included as part of the integrative approach, treating the body as whole. (Chest/breast and belly work is always optional. Read more about the options at Aloha Flow here…)
This bodywork is a powerful form of healing that affects people differently. In the days following a massage, you might experience a range of emotions and physical sensations. The healing/cleansing effects and re-balancing of the body-mind can be felt for weeks after the treatment.
“These massages are not only blissful for the body, but they also help me to release any emotional stress that I walk into Brenda’s room with. They are like a tonic for body-mind and soul!” – Donna
It is always practiced in the spirit of aloha, with deep respect for both giver and receiver.
“The massage felt gentle and so natural. I felt like I was on the tropical island of Hawaii, feeling a gentle breeze from the ocean as Brenda created a flow of air and then her magical rhythmical movements and beautiful choice of music and gentle voice combined with her powerfully healing touch transported me out of my head and into my body like floating on the waves of a warm, calm ocean. ” – Cindy
The magic of this work is that it has the power to lull you into a deep meditative state (the delta state of rest, deeper than sleep), where you will connect with your deeper intelligence (or subconscious mind), the space where healing takes place on a deep cellular level, beyond the muscles and the mind.
Occasionally emotions can arise from these treatments, which is quite normal, and totally healthy. Emotions are in effect just a form of energy. Holding in emotions takes a lot of energy from our nervous system and can cause exhaustion. Releasing these emotions (negative or positive) is so important for your body to return to a more balanced state of being. In some sessions, you will rest more deeply than when you sleep.
Temple Style Lomi meets you where you are at
From the first time I met Brenda, I knew I was completely safe and could trust her. She was able to tailor the sessions directly to my needs and comfort level. I feel completely nurtured and safe throughout each session I have with her. She is incredibly patient and easy to communicate with. She never lets me leave till I feel balanced and integrated. The results of her work are astounding. – Laurette
There are a few different options for massage. You can have a fully-clothed massage session, or an oil massage. You have choices about draping, and what will make you feel most at ease in each session. You are always empowered to choose what’s best for you, in every moment.
Each time you come for a session, you are in a different place, mentally, emotionally and physically. So we can intuitively choose which kind of massage is most appropriate when you arrive for your session.
